Vocal superstar Mariah Carey has confirmed her involvement in the forthcoming new season of American Idol with an exciting tweet.

The 'Obsessed' hitmaker took to her official Twitter page earlier this evening (July 24) and told her 7.5 million followers that she can't wait to start her new role as a judge on the televised talent competition:

"It's gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! --MC"

It was announced earlier this month that both Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have decided to call time on their panelist positions so Carey will replace one of them, although another new judge is yet to be revealed.

American Idol officials also shared the news and tweeted: "It's official! @MariahCarey has joined #Idol as a new judge!!!"
