Kelly Clarkson has paid tribute to Katy Perry by covering her track 'Wide Awake'.

Perry unveiled the track in May as a single around the release of her debut film 'Part of Me'.

Clarkson covered the popular song when she played in California on Wednesday (July 25).

Video footage from the concert shows the American Idol star sailing through the vocal workout as she pays homage to pop princess Perry.

As previously reported, Kelly Clarkson recently picked Carrie Underwood as her ideal next American Idol judge.

There is currently a seat vacant on the judging panel after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler left the show.
