The likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Emeli Sandé were paid £1 to perform at the Olympic Games' opening ceremony.

A star-studded line-up played the prestigious event on Friday (July 27) as London 2012 officially got underway.

The Independent reports however that the music stars playing at the ceremony - which was seen all over the world - only got a token payment of £1.

Emeli Sandé however isn't too fussed and believes that the event was "special"  - although she is still waiting to receive the £1. She said:

"I got paid £1 for my work. It's there in print and I know because I signed the contract myself. Mind you, I haven't received anything yet! When I do, though, that £1 will be truly special. Part of what made the whole event so special was the volunteers who were paid nothing and even paid for their own accommodation. It shows how important art is."

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games meanwhile confirmed that dancers at the show were paid the normal amount.
