Conor Maynard scores midweek No.1 with debut album 'Contrast'

Teen sensation Conor Maynard is on course to score his first No.1 with his debut full-length release, 'Contrast'.

The Brighton-based rising star shot to the top of the UK albums chart this afternoon (August 31) and beat tough competition from the likes of Delilah, who entered at 3 with 'From The Roots Up', and Emeli Sandé's 'Our Version Of Events', which has climbed to No.4 following her haunting Olympics opening ceremony performance.

Plan B's chart-topping cut 'iLL Manors' has slipped 1 place to No.2, Mike Oldfield's 'Two Sides The Very Best Of' has made an appearance at No.6 thanks to his inclusion in Danny Boyle's Olympic spectacle, and 'God Forgives, I Don't' by Rick Ross is at No.7.

Meanwhile, Maynard treated his hometown fans to an album signing earlier today and revealed his shock at how many people attended, writing on Twitter:

"Wow.. Brighton Album Signing was MAD!!! And there was me thinking it would just be my mum."
