George Michael confirms Olympic closing ceremony performance

George Michael has confirmed that he will be performing at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The line-up of the ceremony has been largely kept a closely guarded secret but today (August 7) Michael confirmed on Twitter that he has been rehearsing for the ceremony on August 12. He tweeted:

"Hey everyone, how are you. Spending most of the next week rehearsing like crazy for the Olympic closing ceremony....."

Michael, who was struck down with a near fatal bout of pneumonia late last year, added: "Obviously a bit nervous not having played for nearly a year, but rehearsals sounding great so far!"

The opening ceremony meanwhile for London 2012 on July 27 proved to be a spectacular event, with music contributions from the likes of Frank Turner, Arctic Monkeys and Sir Paul McCartney.
