Former Viva Brother singer: 'My idol Morrissey kicked us off his tour for talking too much'

Lee Newell, former singer for Viva Brother, has revealed that Morrissey kicked the band off his tour for "talking too much to the crowd".

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Newell admitted that the 'Meat Is Murder' star was one of his idols and it was a dream come true to support him on a number of dates so the band were shocked to be told they were no longer a part of the show because of their on stage behaviour:

"My hero Morrissey kicked us off his tour. We never met him. The first night he got his people to tell me: 'You're talking too much to the crowd.' I wasn't. I was on my best behaviour because it's Morrissey. He's my hero. So the next night I didn't talk to the crowd and just said: 'Thank you, we're honoured to be here.' He was: 'I'm afraid you overstepped the mark.'"

He also opened up about his feelings towards the NME and explained that the magazine put Viva Brother on the cover then suddenly lost interest in them after they failed to make it to the 'big time':

"They're getting away with murder. You know what? Much as I love the Stone Roses, I was absolutely gutted they got back together because I thought: that's gonna keep NME in business for another f*cking year."
