Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan name Rihanna & TLC as inspirations for new album

Mutya Keisha Siobhan have named Rihanna and TLC as some of the artists who have inspired their upcoming new album.

The original Sugababes line-up, who yesterday announced they would be releasing material later this year, told Popjustice that their first record since 2000’s 'One Touch' has a number of various influences:

Keisha said: “There’s a song called ‘Drum’ which we all love – it was one of the first songs we did. Actually, before we got signed to our label we’d finished half the album already. It was all about just going in and vibing off each other.

“It’s just of repetitive – “I love it when you beat that drum…”. It’s really inspired by Rihanna, one of the tracks on her album.”

The ‘Overload’ hitmakers, who also confirmed they had been working with 17-year-old producer MNEK and former Blazin’ Squad members Mojam on the record, then added:

“Back In The Day’ has a strong TLC vibe, we’ve been referencing them a lot. There’s a lot of early-90s R&B in there – it’s what inspired us to get into music in the first place.”
