Green Day cancel show after frontman rushed to hospital

Green Day were forced to cancel a show in Italy after mainman Billie Joe Armstrong was taken to hospital.

The punk-rock trio were due to play Bologna on Sunday night (September 2) but they had to pull the show after Armstrong was taken ill.

Bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool apologised in a video statement and expressed their disappointment at the no-show. Dirnt said:

"We sincerely apologise to our fans, but unfortunately due to illness Billie Joe has been hospitalised, and we regretfully must cancel our performance in Bologna, Italy this evening...This sucks."

Cool added: "We are beyond devastated...Billie is extremely upset about it."
