Matt Cardle denies calling JLS and One Direction "puppets"

Matt Cardle has claimed that he was misquoted in an interview in which he called JLS and One Direction "puppets".

The X Factor 2010 winner - who left Simon Cowell's Syco label earlier this year - was said to have stated in a newspaper interview that he wasn't like other X Factor alumni because he didn't want to have songs written for him.

He is reported to have said: "I was never going to be your JLS or One Direction, where songs are written for them and you're a puppet. I was always a different guy. People behind the scenes knew I wasn't some puppet and I never felt like one."

However, he took to Twitter last night (September 9) and then earlier today (September 10) to deny that he dissed the two British boybands. He said:

"Just for the record.Misquoted earlier. I think the boys are amazing. All of them xx."

He later added: "Let me get one thing straight. I had words put in my mouth yesterday. Once again. I have never, ever called jls or 1d puppets.Such a shame xx."

As previously reported, Matt Cardle has announced that he is due to release his second studio album 'The Fire' on October 29.

His last record 'Letters' managed to land at No.2 on the UK albums chart when it was released back in 2011.
