'Moon River' crooner Andy Williams dies aged 84

Legendary crooner Andy Williams has died at age 84 following a year-long battle with bladded cancer, it has been confirmed.

The superstar was well-known for his smooth classics 'Music To Watch Girls By' and 'Moon River', and passed away yesterday (September 25). His death has saddened the music world with tributes pouring in from old and young stars alike.

Westlife's Mark Feehily tweeted about the loss earlier today (September 26) and shared Williams' 'Love Story, Where Do I Begin', writing: "RIP Andy Williams,this song is so beautiful & I've been listening to it regularly for the last few years."

The Charlatans' frontman, Tim Burgess, added: "Another sad loss. Andy Williams was a real smooth guy, that's for sure. Rest in peace Andy."

Neil Portnow, president and CEO of The Recording Academy also remembered Williams in a touching statement: "Andy Williams' smooth voice and casual style turned the songs he sang into timeless classics and made him one of America's top pop singers."

"The entertainment industry has lost a giant piece of its living history today, but Williams' legacy will forever be enshrined in the annals of music and television. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who will miss this American treasure."
