'Hey Jude' voted the best Beatles song in BBC poll

Yesterday (October 5) marked the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' first single release and BBC listeners voted for their all-time favourite song by the iconic group.

'Love Me Do' was released on October 5, 1952 and to commemorate it, BBC Local Radio called for 12,000 people to take a poll in order to decide the UK's most-loved Beatles hit and 'Hey Jude' came out on top.

When 'Hey Jude' was first released, it was the longest single ever to top the charts at over seven-minutes long and it was originally composed by Paul McCartney.

Other songs to make the Top 5 included 'Yesterday', 'Let It Be', 'All You Need Is Love', and 'Eleanor Rigby'. The Top 10 continued on with 'Here Comes The Sun', 'The Long And Winding Road', 'She Loves You', 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' and 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.
