Gary Barlow storms off as Carolyne Poole becomes first X-Factor contestant to be eliminated

Gary Barlow stormed off tonight’s X-Factor results show after his act Carolynne Poole became the first contestant to be eliminated in the live finals.

The Take That star walked off the judging panel after Louis Walsh sent the result of the sing-off between the over-28s country singer and the flamboyant Rylan Clark to deadlock.

Dermot O’Leary then revealed that the former Fame Academy entrant had finished bottom of the public vote and would therefore be going home, a result which was greeted by a chorus of boos from the studio audience.

Both Barlow and Tulisa had saved Poole following her performance of Faith Hill’s 'There You’ll Be,' but their votes were cancelled out by mentor Nicole Scherzinger and a dithering Walsh, who opted to save Rylan instead.

Before the results drama, Leona Lewis performed her new single, 'Trouble,' while Ne-Yo sang his recent number one hit, 'Let Me Love You.'
