Christina Aguilera: 'My music is more daring than Britney's but we've gained respect for each other now'

Pop powerhouse Christina Aguilera has admitted that working with Max Martin earlier on in her career wouldn't have been the best move because of the music he produced with Britney Spears and N'SYNC.

Speaking to Perez Hilton, Aguilera explained that her new album 'Lotus' is very edgy and she's glad that she waited to collaborate with the superstar songwriter because he used to work with very straightforward pop acts whose music she isn't overly keen on:

"I'm not sure we would have been able to create the same music had we connected earlier. He did all the Britney and N'Sync songs, and I was doing something a little more daring. But we've gained respect for each other."

She also added that 'commercial success' is something that no longer crosses her mind when working on a new song because she wants to avoid the generic appeal and focus on a more dynamic sound:

"I don't really push myself to have those formulaic commercial successes. It's dishonest and it starts lacking creativity. I embraced being a pop artist, but I like doing it on my own terms, at my own pace."
