Carly Rae Jepsen named Billboard's Rising Star

'Call Me Maybe' songstress Carly Rae Jepsen has been crowned the winner of an exciting category in the 2012 Billboard Women in Music event that has been previously won by the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.

The Canadian beauty will be awarded the Rising Star prize at the ceremony, which is set to take place in New York on November 30. Jepsen spoke of her pride to be recognised and explained that it's a 'true honour' to be chosen for the title:

"As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award. I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me."

Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, added: "Carly Rae Jepsen's infectious debut single has become nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon, leading to unprecedented viral fanfare."

"Few artists have achieved this level of success this early in a career. We are thrilled to honor her extraordinary U.S. debut, and we look forward to seeing where she goes next."
