Yoko Ono to curate 2013 Meltdown Festival

Yoko Ono has been confirmed as the director of next year's Meltdown Festival.

The event, which is due to celebrate its 20th anniversary, is held at London's Southbank Centre and the 2013 festival will take place on June 14-23.

79-year-old Ono will follow in the footsteps of previous curators such as David Bowie, Ray Davies and Jarvis Cocker.

The festival will focus on music and the arts and will feature concerts, visual art, DJ sets, talks and films.

Speaking about her role, Ono said: "I am deeply honoured to curate the world-famous Meltdown Festival. In doing so I am aware of the great tradition of experimentalism mixed with classicism that has made the festival such an enduring part of the British arts landscape. I am now starting to approach names from all over the world, some of whom you will know and some who might be new to your world. Let the fun begin!"

The full Meltdown line-up is to be announced in due course.
