PSY's 'Gangnam Style' surpasses Bieber YouTube record

PSY's 'Gangnam Style' has beaten Justin Bieber's 'Baby' to become YouTube's most viewed video ever.

The eccentric singer stormed to the top of the international charts with his catchy tune which is accompanied by a humorous dance performance - and the video has proved a worldwide hit on the social networking site.

YouTube explained in a post on its Trends blog that 'Gangnam Style' has been viewed 805 million times as of yesterday afternoon outdoing Bieber's 803 million views for his chart-topping hit 'Baby'.

The video now has over 812 million hits.

YouTube added that the "velocity of popularity for PSY's outlandish video is unprecedented".

The bizarre dance moves have been copied by a whole host of stars including Madonna, Britney Spears and Mel B - and PSY even collaborated with MC Hammer at the recent American Music Awards (AMAs).

PSY previously explained: "What I thought was, I’ve got to do more than Gangnam Style, so I thought about it… Something special, something huge, very massive. I just got the word, MC Hammer, aww yeah.”

PSY's video for 'Gangnam Style' was posted on YouTube in July before going viral, while Bieber's 'Baby' was uploaded in February 2010.
