fun. singer Nate Ruess battling vocal problems

Nate Ruess, frontman of 'We Are Young' rockers fun., has revealed that vocal problems almost caused the group to pull out of their performance at the Grammy Nominations Concert.

fun. took the stage at the event last night (December 5) in Nashville, Tennessee although they debated cancelling their appearance.

Speaking to Billboard.com about his problem, Ruess explained that he was lucky to have been able to sing successfully after a week of rocky vocals: "Last week, we had some vocal problems, and really wanted to give it our all tonight. Fortunately, my voice worked."

Meanwhile, fun. have landed an impressive number of GRAMMY nominations and are up for 6 awards. Guitarist Jack Antonoff revealed that their nominations prove that "alternative music is back" in the mainstream finally:

"It's been an incredible year in music. It feels like alternative music is back, looking at album of the year, especially those nominations. We couldn't be more proud to be in there. ... I think when we were sitting in our chairs out there, when we saw Jack White up there, that's when we really pinched ourselves. We felt so honored to be in the same category."
