Little Mix: 'One Direction have opened the gate for us to try and crack America'

Girl group Little Mix have admitted that now's the perfect time for them to try and break into the American market because other UK acts have been enjoying great success there recently.

Member Jade Thirlwall told MTV that they are planning on heading to the States in 2013 and want to raise their profile in the U.S. in the same way that fellow X Factor alums One Direction have managed to do:

"I think One Direction really opened the gate. With them [and] artists like Adele coming through America it's been such a British year."

"With the Olympics and the whole royal family thing and all that stuff I think everyone's just jumping on board Britain at the moment. It's nice to see and hopefully they'll still be waiting for us come next year."

Jesy Nelson added that One Direction's popularity across the pond has inspired them to follow suit: "Obviously the boys have been dominating this year and it's about time we get girl power in there. So that's our aim for next year."
