Lostprophets singer remanded in custody over child sex allegations

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on child sex charges.

As previously reported, the 35-year-old Welsh rock star was charged earlier this month alongside two other women with a number of child sex offences.

One of the charges claims that Watkins and a 24-year-old woman allegedly conspired to rape a 1-year-old girl.

Watkins and his co-defendants appeared in Cardiff Crown Court via video-link today (December 31), speaking only to confirm their names.

The PA reports that the singer has been denied bail and remanded in custody ahead of a case management hearing scheduled at Cardiff Crown Court for March 11.

Watkins' bandmates meanwhile issued a statement soon after news of his charges broke, saying:

"Following charges made against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu."
