Justin Bieber has usurped Lady Gaga to become the most popular person on Twitter.

The 'Born This Way' star had previously been the most followed user of the social networking website - but a recent rush of new Bieber fans has tipped the scales.

The Canadian was on the verge of toppling Gaga on Monday (January 21) and he has now sealed the deal, amassing over 33,320,000 followers.

The race at the top, however, is incredibly tight - at the time of writing, Bieber is on 33,320,771 followers whilst Lady Gaga has 33,319,589.

Fans of the 'Boyfriend' man meanwhile have been lapping up the news, with one Twitter user proclaiming:

"Hater: 'Justin Bieber doesn't have fans!' Me: 'But he's the most followed person on Twitter, so byeeeeee'."
