Tegan and Sara reveal Rihanna inspiration

Tegan and Sara took influence from Rihanna for some of their new material, the duo have revealed.

The Canadian twins released new album 'Heartthrob' on Monday (February 11) and their deviance into pop has created huge buzz.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Tegan Quin said that one of the album's lead tracks, 'I Was A Fool', was directly influenced by the sound of Rihanna. She said:

"I've told this story before but I don't think anyone actually believed me! I was deliberately writing a song that I thought someone like Rihanna would want. I also wrote it thinking of her sort of character, someone who is in the media all the time and is probably not the person they're portrayed to be."

She continued: "I was listening to her song 'Unfaithful' and wanted to create a similar piano riff. When [producer] Greg Kurstin heard it, he just said, 'That's a pop song!'. We were going to go with it as the first single as the response to it from the UK has been fantastic - I think the label are going to try and get it on radio now."
