Green Day set for first post-rehab live show

Punk rockers Green Day are set to return to the stage for the first time since Billie Joe Armstrong was admitted to rehab last year.

The band were forced to cancel 9 dates of their 2012 tour after the singer and guitarist decided to take time out to get treatment, but will now play their first show at SXSW in Austin, Texas next month.

They will make their SXSW debut on March 15 at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre, which coincidentally is the same day as the world premiere of the film 'Broadway Idiot'.

Tweeting about the movie's premiere, Green Day wrote (February 22): "Broadway Idiot will have its World Premiere screening at #SXSW on Friday, March 15th @ 2:45 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX!"

In a recent statement, Billie Joe thanked his fans for their support and confirmed that the band would tour this year: "Dear friends…I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family."

"I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can’t wait to get on the road and live out load! Our passion has only grown stronger."
