Clive Davis praises "brave" Frank Ocean

Music mogul Clive Davis has praised Frank Ocean for being "brave" after revealing his sexuality to the world.

80-year-old Davis tells all about his bisexual life in his new autobiography, 'The Soundtrack of My Life'.

US singer-songwriter Ocean also revealed his sexual orientation in an open letter to fans on his Tumblr account last year, and Davis has commended the 25-year-old star's courage.

Talking to MTV News, Davis explained: "Put my story aside, it was very brave of him. I'll tell you what was heart-warming was the reaction of the hip-hop community. I mean, they accepted him as a person. This could have been very controversial.

He added: "You take an actor, a romantic actor, or years ago you take a leading man romantic singer that has fan clubs of females all over the world one way or another ... it's terribly detrimental to their career. That's why you do have a number of people scared to death that their careers could be so adversely affected.

"It's a real issue and someone like Frank Ocean, just beginning [his career] to be candid and to see the hip-hop community embrace it and understand it. That was very, very powerfully positive."

Ocean revealed he was bisexual to fans in July last year, writing: "4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I'd see him, and his smile.

"Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping, no negotiating to the women I had been with, the ones I cared for and thought I was in love with (sic)."
