Bastille's Dan Smith: 'Number one album feels like a joke'

Bastille frontman Dan Smith has said that potentially debuting at number one with their first LP is "ridiculous".

The 'Pompeii' band are currently leading the midweek album chart with 'Bad Blood', with the record a clear 6,500 sales ahead of its nearest rival, Stereophonics' 'Graffiti On The Train'. However, Smith, in an interview with Digital Spy, remarked that the news struck him as "surreal".

He said: "It feels like a bit of a joke to be honest. Stereophonics are like a proper band, and last week we had the weird single chart battle with artists like One Direction. It's been quite a surreal couple of weeks.

"The album thing is ridiculous and we don't really know what to think."

Smith also admitted that he was astonished at how popular the band had become since releasing their debut single in 2011, adding: "We're quite new to this stuff. We're so involved in touring and gigging that it's quite hard to have a perception of how many people actually like our music.

"It's just been a really nice surprise I guess. The amount of people who have bought it within the first few days - we're just completely blown away."
