Pattie Mallette, the mother of teen sensation Justin Bieber, has opened up about his split with former girlfriend Selena Gomez.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, in which she was promoting her short film 'Crescendo', Mallette explained that she will always have a soft spot for the Disney starlet because she dated her son for such a long time:

"She's a sweetheart. I'll always love and respect her. Whatever Justin chooses, it's his life. I talk to her, yeah, I talk to her."

She added that she hasn't yet watched Gomez's risqué new movie, 'Spring Breakers'. The young mother also recently spoke out about the negative press Bieber received while in London and told her followers to ignore stories in the press:

"Crazy rumors, fake fights & fake "sources". Don't believe most of what u hear/read."
