'Glee' school shooting episode slammed by parents of Newtown school massacre

Last night (April 11), an episode of 'Glee' aired in the USA that dealt with a school shooting and parents of children gunned down in the 2012 Newtown massacre have hit out at the 'insensitive' broadcast.

Back in December, 20 children were shot and killed by gunman Adam Lanza at the Sandy Hook school and the newest episode of the popular TV drama series featured pupils and teachers cowering from a suspected killer. Parent Andrew Paley said that residents of the Connecticut town should have been warned about the episode:

"We're going through a healing phase right now and without giving us any kind of warning, it's going to open up wounds we're trying to close right now. I think it's terrible that the writers and producers of that show didn't think to contact someone in Newtown to let us know this was coming. A lot of people watch that show. They shouldn't be upset by it."

Tricia Muzzio, a resident of the area, added: "This close to the tragedy without any warning, I believe was inconsiderate. It was so realistic that I couldn't believe it."

The episode became a huge talking point on Twitter last night with fans of the show debating whether it should have been shown or even dealt with.
