David Bowie's new video has been reinstated by YouTube after it was removed by the streaming website.

As previously reported, the singer unleashed the promo clip for his new single 'The Next Day', which opens his album of the same name.

The video dabbled in religious themes and saw the singer act as a Christ like figure, whilst there were also nods to violence and self-flagellation.

It was quickly removed by YouTube as news of the video spread - but it has now been reinstated, along with an adult-only certificate.

Users must sign into YouTube to confirm they are old enough to view with clip when on the website, which is directed by Floria Sigismondi. A spokeswoman for YouTube commented:

"With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call. When it's brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it."
