Jay-Z "nailed" The Great Gatsby roleJay-Z "nailed" the "aspirational" premise of The Great Gatsby, says the film's director Baz Luhrmann. The superstar rapper served as the executive producer of the soundtrack album for the film - which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Luhrmann says Jay-Z totally understood the role right from the get-go. Speaking to MTV News he said: "Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz were two of the first people to see a rough cut of the film. Jay watched it, and he was fantastic. He and Swizz were talking. I'm like, 'What are they talking about?' And at the end, [Jay-Z] said, 'This story is not about how Jay Gatsby made his money; it's is he a good person or not?'" He continued: "He totally nailed that the book was aspirational. That the book was really about, if you've got a cause, you can move towards a green light. That you don't reach it isn't the point; that you aspire is." Beyoncé, Outkast's Andre 3000, Florence Welch, Lana Del Rey and Emeli Sandé, are just some of the talented artists to feature on the star-studded soundtrack.
