Scott Weiland countersues Stone Temple Pilots

Singer Scott Weiland has filed a countersuit against his former Stone Temple Pilots bandmates after he was sacked from the band and sued for misuse of the band’s name.

Band members Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz claim that Weiland’s chronic lateness and poor performances has cost them millions on their tour last year and they wish to prevent Weiland from using the band’s name to promote his solo material.

In response to the lawsuit, Weiland is now looking for a minimum of seven million dollars in damages and for a judge to formally dissolve the band’s partnership, preventing the other members from laying claim to the STP name.

In legal documents obtained by TMZ.com, Weiland stated: "How do you expel a man from the band that he started, named, sang lead on every song, wrote the lyrics, and was the face of for twenty years?"

After sacking Weiland from the group, Stone Temple Pilots hired Chester Bennington of Linkin Park to take over on vocals and have already played gigs with the new line-up.
