Sting to release first album of original songs in a decade

This fall, music legend Sting will be releasing his first album of original tracks since 2003’s ‘Sacred Love’, his publicist has revealed.

The album will be called ‘The Last Ship’ and has grown out of a musical Sting has been working on with the same name. The show is hoping to make it to Broadway next year.

Though he has released work since 2003 – including 2010’s ‘Symphonicities’ an orchestral collection of his previous compositions – this will be the first album of originals by the Police star in ten years.

Several tracks on the album are expected to be heard in the musical and Sting has been working with the likes of ‘Skyfall’ co-writer John Logan and playwright Brian Yorkey on the show.

The musical is based around a shipyard during the decline of the shipbuilding industry in late 1980’s England.
