Alexandra Burke announces US show

Former X Factor champion Alexandra Burke has announced her first ever American show.

The singer took to Twitter this afternoon to confirm plans to join Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu and Patti LaBelle for a show to honour music legend Chaka Khan.

The show will mark the icon's 40th anniversary in the music industry and will take place in New York City on June 10.

Burke excitedly wrote on the social networking site: "My 1st US gig is next week!! Catch me w/ @fatbellybella @maryjblige @MsPattiPatti @Jennifersspot to honour @ChakaKhan #LEGENDS! (sic)."

Burke's announcement follows on from the news a few weeks ago that she has parted ways from her record company RCA.

A spokesperson from the label said in a statement: "We were in negotiations with Alexandra over continuing her relationship with RCA. However, the two sides had differing views over the best creative path for Alexandra to take. As a result, both sides have parted amicably."

Burke, 24, was initially signed to Simon Cowell's label, Syco after winning The X Factor in 2008.

Burke wrote a cryptic message to fans on her Twitter page earlier today, teasing new material in the pipeline.

She posted: "Working hard in the studio creating something special for my fans which is coming soon :) ... (sic)."
