Cher: "The Voice bypasses trash"

Iconic songstress Cher says by going on TV shows like 'The Voice', you can "bypass a lot of trashy stuff".

The 67-year-old singer performed her new single 'Woman's World' for the first time on US television this week during the finale of the hit TV talent show.

Cher is a fan of the series, and would have loved the expert advice of judges Adam Levine, Usher, Shakira and Blake Shelton when she was starting out in the business.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly she said:  “Going on shows like this, this is an amazing thing. … When I first started, we played bowling alleys and roller rinks. We didn’t get to go on anything.”

She added: “We got to go on stuff when we were famous, but this is amazing, when you have actual people who have been in the business, been successful and want to help you. You can bypass a lot of trashy stuff.”

Cher's new album 'Closer To The Truth' follows on from her 2001 record 'Living Proof'.

In a recent interview she discussed her most recent musical offering: "The songs are really good. They're dance songs but they're kind of fun. There are some tongue-in-cheek songs... there's some really sad songs. One is Pink's and it's called 'Lie To Me'. My friend from the Scissor Sisters Jason [Jake Shears]... he's on 'Take It Like A Man'. I'm really proud of it."
