London's O2 becomes world's most popular arena

The O2 in London has become the most popular arena in the world.

The Evening Standard reports that the powerhouse arena has announced revenues of £63m last year.

That equates to two million concert tickets sold, with the likes of Robbie Williams and The Rolling Stones helping boost the coffers with blockbuster gigs in 2012.

Olympic events meanwhile also saw the venue generate bags of cash. The arena's finance director Sarah Brooks commented:

"The increase in revenue in the year is mainly due to the Olympic and Paralympic rental."

The O2's success is showing no signs of abating soon, with One Direction performing eleven shows there this year so far, whilst Beyoncé also enjoyed a sold-out run of dates in April and May.
