Jay-Z's forthcoming new album will likely be certified platinum instantly, it has been revealed.

The rapper is releasing studio effort 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' on July 7, but one million users of Samsung Mobile can get the record free three days earlier.

This has prompted the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to examine their pre-existing rules on how long a release has to wait before being given a certification.

They have decided that digital albums can now be counted instantly - meaning that Jay-Z's album should technically go platinum upon release. Liz Kennedy, director of the RIAA's Gold & Platinum Programme, confirmed:

"Going forward, sales of albums in digital format will become eligible on the release date, while sales of albums in physical format will still become eligible for certification 30 days after the release date.

"Not only do we believe it's sensible and logical to align digital album rules with those we have maintained for digital singles since the programme's inception, we also consider today's move in line with our larger efforts to modernise the G&P Programme to reflect the new music marketplace."

The rapper has effectively sold one million albums to Samsung, who then will give away the music via an exclusive app.

Billboard and the UK's Official Charts Company, however, will not take into account the free Samsung giveaway when they collate their chart data.
