Morrissey issues apology over postponed and cancelled tour dates

Morrissey has written an apology following his postponement and cancellation of a number of concerts in South America.

The Manchester star was forced to abandon and reschedule a string of shows in Peru, Brazil, Chile and Argentina after contracting food poisoning.

In a statement posted on fan site True To You, the former Smiths frontman explained how he became ill and the severity of his state of health.

The 'Suedehead' singer revealed that the food poisoning came from "a simple restaurant meal of penne pasta and tomato" and that three hours after eating he "collapsed with a deadly and delirious bedridden disease."

However he reassured his fans that he will make a full recovery as he stated: "I have returned to Los Angeles and to the expert supervision of my doctor Jeremy Fine, who assures me that I shall be fine."

In response to his altered tour dates Morrissey said: "In the heat of cancellations and postponements, the humiliation and mortification I feel on a personal level is too mammoth to be measured... I am not one to take refuge in clichés, I repeat my very servile apologies to any and all who back-packed their way to Peru."

Earlier this month Morrissey admitted that he “almost died” this year after a previous bout of ill health.

In his latest announcement Morrissey took the opportunity to tell fans: "Each year of life brings us nearer to our decline, but I will continue to seek a listener until I'm dead in a ditch."
