Avicii scores midweek No.1 with 'Wake Me Up'

Swedish DJ and producer Avicii shot into the UK Top 40 singles chart at No.1 this afternoon (July 17) with his new single, 'Wake Me Up'.

This midweek chart update victory could provide the hitmaker with his second UK No.1 after his track 'I Could Be The One' peaked at the top spot back in February.

The Official Charts Company revealed that it has shifted an impressive 153,000 copies in just 3 days and is currently on course to become the fastest-selling single of 2013.

Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' has dropped 1 position to No.2, Selena Gomez's 'Come & Get It' has debuted at 4 and Avril Lavigne's 'Here's To Never Growing Up' is a new entry at No.10.

Elsewhere on the midweek chart, Jay-Z's 'Holy Grail' has climbed 9 spots to No.15, Lawson's 'Brokenhearted' has fallen a rather large 10 places to sit at No.16, and former 'X Factor' finalist Lucy Spraggan has made an appearance at 18 with 'Lighthouse'.
