Lady Gaga on new single: "It's full of happiness"

Modern pop icon Lady Gaga has revealed details about her forthcoming new single, 'Applause'.

She confirmed the track's title to Women's Wear Daily and explained that despite having a troubled year, the song is actually "full of happiness":

"I'll tell you that it is very fun. And that it's full of happiness, because what I'm saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch."

Speaking about the time off she took following the injury she sustained on her 'Born This Way Ball' tour, Gaga added that it gave her some perspective and allowed her to really explore her creativity:

"I had six months to beef up my brain and my body. I was given the time to really be creative because it's a gazing process, it really is. I have to gaze into the work for long periods of time for it to be good. I have that feeling, that wonderful feeling, when me, Inez [Van Lamsweerde] and Brandon [Maxwell] look at each other and we go, 'It's so good. That's the one."

She will perform 'Applause' live at the 2013 MTV VMAs on August 25 in Brooklyn.
