Backstreet Boys star to release self-help book

Singer Nick Carter, of Backstreet Boys fame, has revealed plans to pen a self-help book after struggling with addiction personally and losing a close family member to an overdose.

His sister, Leslie, passed away last year in late January and while an official cause of death was never confirmed, it was announced that she had been taking a cocktail of prescription medications that probably played a part in her incredibly untimely death.

Now, the 'I Want It That Way' singer has explained to Access Hollywood that he wants to help others impacted by addiction and feels his own experiences would help: "I am directly effected by it (alcohol and drugs), which is why I decided to write a self-help book."

The book, entitled 'Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It', will be released in September and deals with his own drugs and alcohol struggles. Carter added that his bandmates have been the most supportive people in his life and he couldn't have done it without them:

"I always am going to love my family but, in some strange way, they are more of a family than mine have (sic) been to me over the years. I became the younger brother in this family when I was 12, when I met these guys, and they became a very good influence on me."
