Demi Lovato: 'I'm responsible for being a good role model'

Former Disney starlet Demi Lovato has revealed that being famous comes with a lot of responsibility and she feels it's important to be a good role model to those who look up to her.

She explained to OK! magazine that she wants to be honest with her fans and to use her own life experiences to help and guide them through whatever they might be going through: "To be a role model is my biggest responsibility. It's about being honest-it's about being open."

"I look at it as I have a little sister [Madison De La Garza, 11], and I want to be a role model for her. I've been through a lot in my life, and the last thing I want is for my sister to go through anything that I did. I want to help prevent her from the mistakes that I've made."

The 'Heart Attack' hitmaker added that she also wants to help remove the stigma of mental illness because it shouldn't be such a difficult thing to talk about:

"What people don't realise is that everyone's affected by somebody who's struggling with a mental illness. There's a stigma around it, so when you say 'mental illness,' people think 'crazy.' But that's not the case. There's a ton of people who are bipolar, there's so many people who suffer from PTSD and trauma and other things like that."
