Matt Cardle speaks to Pressparty: "I'm over the moon with my new single"

Since beating the likes of One Direction and Rebecca Ferguson to the X Factor crown in 2010, Matt Cardle has released two albums and sold millions of records. His new single - the Mel C duet 'Loving You' - has entered at No.10 in the midweek UK chart and the singer will unleash his third album 'Porcelain' on October 28. Pressparty caught up with Cardle for a quick chat to find out more.

Are you pleased with how 'Loving You' came out?

Yeah, I'm absolutely over the moon. We've had such an amazing reaction to it so far - not just in the UK, but in Europe and all over the world.

What was it like to work with Mel C?

She's absolutely awesome and such a pro. She's also a pleasure to be around and hang out with.

It seems like you guys hit it off?

We did yeah, it was really cool. The video was good fun to make, trust me.

Does the song reflect the sound of 'Porcelain'?

Not really. It's a very, very mixed up album. It's really diverse - there's some soul tracks on it, rock and all sorts.

Are there any specific artists who have influenced the record?

Just the people that I've been writing with really, and the people that I've been listening to over the years. Anything that I've listened to, I have been inspired by.

You're a fan of heavy metal - might that make an appearance on the album?

That's kind of been running through everything I've done really…I love a good riff.

Are you an artist who prefers performing live or working in the studio?

There's nothing better than playing live. I love both things just as much, but live is where it's at for me.

Your manager recently said that he thinks you're being erased from the X Factor history books?

That's what he said in regards to the being left out the recent mash-up video, but I wasn't too fussed about it to be fair. It's just a video.

Do you look back fondly on your X Factor experience?

Yeah, I loved it.

You were on the same series as One Direction - are you proud of their success?

Yeah, it's incredible. I'm really proud of them - they've killed it.

Here's some questions from fans - what's the star tattoo on your hand?

It's the Rage Against The Machine symbol.

What was the hardest part of writing and recording the new album?

I think just actually physically recording the album - it's been really tough at times. Because I do most of the instruments, it's quite full on. Drums, bass and guitar. It's time-consuming as well.

What's your favourite cover to sing live?

'Jolene' by Dolly Parton.
