Green Day headline Reading Festival

Rock band Green Day closed out the first night of this year’s Reading Festival with a two-and-a-half-hour set of their biggest hits.

The ‘Basket Case’ rockers hit the stage following an introduction from a large dancing rabbit wearing the name of the band’s drummer Tre Cool.

The band performed the whole of their 1994 album ‘Dookie’ between other big hits from their back catalogue, including ‘American Idiot’ and ‘Holiday’.

Lead singer Bille Joe Armstrong at one point invited a fan onstage to sing a rendition of ‘Know Your Enemy’.  Armstrong also dubbed Reading “the greatest festival in the world” before finishing the set with an acoustic performance of ‘Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)’.

Festival goers in Reading this weekend can still look forward to headlining slots from Eminem and Biffy Clyro as well as other performances by Nine Inch Nails and Fall Out Boy, among many others.
