New UK series of The X Factor attracts over 10 million viewers

The latest series of The X Factor was launched on UK screens last night (31 August).

This year’s televised talent contest sees Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne judging the musical abilities of UK hopefuls.

Last night’s debut show saw a 500,000 rise in viewing figures compared to last year’s premier episode.

The average audience for Saturday night’s show was 9.2 million viewers and hit a peak figure of 10.3 million.

The format of the show has been altered this year as contestants now face two rounds of auditions – one in front of the judges and a second before a sold-out arena audience – before reaching the boot camp stage.

This is the tenth series of The X Factor in the UK and will culminate on December 17.
