One Direction and Taylor Swift bag Guinness World Records

One Direction and Taylor Swift are two of a number of music acts who have achieved new Guinness World Records.

The British-Irish pop band have entered the famed book for having the highest debut by a UK group on the US singles chart for their single 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

It reached No.4 in the Billboard list upon release, with only 'Best Song Ever' and 'Live While We're Young' charting higher for the group in the US.

Taylor Swift meanwhile has entered the Guinness book of World Records for having the fastest selling digital single of all time. Her 2012 track 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' hit No.1 on iTunes after just 50 minutes on sale.

She also achieved a record for being the first female artist with two million-selling weeks on the US albums chart since sales were counted in 1991.

Emeli Sandé notched up an award for her debut record 'Our Version of Events' having the most consecutive UK top ten weeks for a debut album, whilst Calvin Harris' '18 Months' saw the Scottish DJ get a record for the most top ten songs on the UK singles chart from one album.
