Simon Cowell has slammed the "nonsense" rumours surrounding his love life.

The music mogul confirmed last month that he is set to be a father for the first time with New York socialite Lauren Silverman.

Reports have been circulating regarding the nature of pregnant Silverman's intentions, but Cowell insists the stories are totally false.

Speaking to US talk show host Ellen Degeneres Cowell explained: “I obviously can’t blame the media — it was kind of what I call a juicy story. But there was a lot of stuff that was said about her — that she trapped me and that she’s a gold-digger. It’s absolute nonsense.

“She’s a great girl but, like I said, it was awkward because of the circumstances.”

Cowell has an estimated wealth of £225m but revealed in an interview with Esquire magazine recently that he'd rather donate his money to charity than pass it down to his children. He said:

"I'm going to leave my money to somebody. A charity, probably - kids and dogs. I don't believe in passing on from one generation to another. Your legacy has to be that hopefully you gave enough people an opportunity, so that they could do well, and you gave them your time, taught them what you know."
