Robin Thicke on Miley Cyrus VMAs performance: 'We knew what we were getting into'

Crooner Robin Thicke has opened up about his performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs, for which he was joined by a gyrating, foam-finger wielding Miley Cyrus.

Their risqué moves and rendition of his hit single 'Blurred Lines' encouraged much discussion from fans and critics alike and he has admitted that they did it with the intention of shocking. Speaking to Star about their raunchy live collaboration, Thicke explained that it was all pre-meditated and they expected it to illicit a strong reaction:

"We knew what we were getting ourselves into. We're entertainers, and the VMAs [are] the perfect place for a little shock and awe."

"We kind of knew when we were in rehearsal and we were like, 'Okay, if you touch me with your foam finger all over my crotch, obviously a few people are going to have something to say about this'. But that was the whole point!"

Earlier this month, Cyrus told reporters that she wanted to "make history" with the performance: "Me and Robin [Thicke] the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now'."
