Nicole Scherzinger on ‘X Factor’ judging: “Don’t kill their dreams”

Nicole Scherzinger has opened up about judging on the current season of ‘The X Factor’, saying that she’s noticed a difference of styles among her fellow judges.

The singer also talked on the show’s new format, where contestants only get the chance to perform in front of a crowd at Wembley if they can impress the judges with their a cappella renditions first.

"I think if you have 'it', no matter what the environment, we're going to know when we see it," Scherzinger told the Daily Express.

"Some contestants find it harder being in the rooms because they will often hide behind the energy of the audience in the arenas. But the room auditions give them a real chance to connect with us."

Scherzinger also chatted up her fellow judge Sharon Osbourne: "Last year, when they asked me who I wanted the next judge to be, I said Mrs O. For me, she's the queen, the one who started the show. It's an honour, a blessing and a blast to work alongside her, and the other judges as well."

When it came to her other colleagues on the panel, Scherzinger had some other observations.

"It's great because Gary [Barlow] and I are very empathetic to the artists, being artists ourselves," she said. "It's good to have the juxtaposition and the conflict with the two managers because they see things differently.

"They speak differently. Louis [Walsh] will say, 'you're not a star, you're not going anywhere'. I look at myself as an artist ambassador and I'm thinking, 'don't ever tell someone that, don't kill their dreams'."
