Sir Paul McCartney gave Carrie Underwood 'letter of permission' to sing 'Yesterday'

Country-pop sensation Carrie Underwood performed a special cover of The Beatles' hit 'Yesterday' at the 2013 Emmys and confirmed that Sir Paul McCartney gave her permission before the show to sing the iconic song

She gave a stunning rendition of the well-loved song at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night (September 22) and took to her official Twitter page after the star-studded event to reveal that McCartney had given her a 'letter of permission' to use the track on stage:

"The coolest thing about singing "Yesterday" on the #Emmys is the sweet letter I got from @PaulMcCartney giving me his blessing to sing it!"

Meanwhile, Underwood recently explained that she's excited to return to the studio in the near future to work on what will be her fifth album although it won't be until she has finished taking part in NBC's 'The Sound of Music' production.
