Lorde becomes youngest act to get No.1 single in US since 1987

Lorde has become the youngest artist to top the US singles chart since 1987.

The 16-year-old New Zealand singer hit the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her track 'Royals' after spending weeks in the top three.

She only turns 17 on November 7, meaning that she is the youngest star to hit No.1 in the country since Tiffany, who reached the top spot with 'I Think We're Alone Now' in 1987 when she was just 16 years and one month old.

Motown icon Stevie Wonder meanwhile holds the record for the youngest act to get a US No.1 single, with his song 'Fingertips Pt.2' hitting the top spot in 1963 when the singer was just 13.

Lorde meanwhile released her debut album 'Pure Heroine' in the States at the end of September, with an October 28 release mooted in the UK.
