BBC to make orchestral versions of One Direction and Little Mix hits

BBC Radio are producing orchestral versions of pop hits by groups One Direction and Little Mix.

The tracks, which have been mixed with classical compositions, were commissioned to be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and were put together by Steve Pycroft. Pycroft recently created a Baroque version of Justin Bieber’s ‘Beauty and a Beat’.

One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' has been blended with Verdi's 'Anvil Chorus' for the recordings, while Little Mix song 'Wings' has been mixed with Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries'.

The songs will be recorded by two orchestras, one all-male and the other all-female.  Next month, members of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Halle choir will then take part in a girls vs boys musical battle for Children in Need.

The songs will both be available for download with proceeds going to charity, the winner will be the song that shifts the most copies.
