Britney Spears' music used to deter pirates

The pop music of superstar Britney Spears is often used to try and scare off Somali pirates by the Royal Navy.

Merchant navy officer, Rachel Owens, explained to London's Metro newspaper that the saccharine pop gems released by the hitmaker are perfect for annoying pirates and are actually effective in keeping them at bay:

"Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most."

"These guys can't stand Western culture or music, making Britney's hits perfect. It's so effective the ship's security rarely needs to resort to firing guns. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can."

Owens added that the two most useful songs are 'Oops! I Did It Again' and 'Baby One More Time'. Steven Jones, of the Security Association for the Maritime Industry, also confessed: "Pirates will go to any lengths to avoid or try to overcome the music. I'd imagine using Justin Bieber would be against the Geneva Convention."
